Refined Grains – whit bread pasta, and cereals are a form of refined grains. These grains have had their fibers and other nutrients removed so they can be preserved for longer periods. Once you process the grains, they are not as healthy as whole grains. This is because a lot of the nutrients that were lost in the refining process do not exist anymore. The processed grain will digest faster than unprocessed grains and your body will absorb more sugar after eating them because they take less time to break down which can lead to weight gain due to insulin release.
Refined grains also lack fiber which can lead to constipation or unhealthy bowel movements. Eating too many refined grains can increase your risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Also, make sure to read food labels before buying any products containing refined grains. Anything enriched on the label means it has been enriched with vitamins and minerals from being stripped from its original ingredients.
